Italian term

spazi di compensazione

Italian to English Other Other
Il percorso tra le stanze attraversa tutta la boutique ed è interrotto solo da brevi spazi di compensazione.

It's about an exhibition being held in a fashion store, and obviously these "spazi" are breaks in the exhibition, but what would we call them?? Thanks for any suggestions

Luuk's suggestion is correct but if I were reading this I'm not sure I'd understand what there is to contemplate since, as you say, these are *breaks* in the exhibition

one of the meanings of *compensazione* is *clearing*, i.e.

**supplying of pressure from your lungs, throat and mouth to offset, or balance, external water pressure. Equalization pressure returns eardrums, sinus walls and masks to their former shape**

Metaphorically speaking, these *spazi di compensazione* let you absorb what you've seen, take a breath and move on

Incidentally, *transition space* is used to describe entrances, foyers, lobbies and hallways ...

as well as the space that separates one exhibit from the next:

Throughout the facility, smaller exhibits are displayed informally with **transition spaces** between them, allowing visitors to absorb what they have just experienced before continuing to the next exhibit

Hi Claire
It's not clear to me whether these are functional spaces in the physical sense or simply conceptual breaks. The word "compensazione" arouses suspicion in my mind. I have no idea what sort of exhibition could possibly "attraversare tutta la boutique" and merit the description "percorso" but I haven't been getting out enough lately so please bear with me. If we were, for example, talking about an installation composed of a series of panels, then this would explain the use of the word "compensazione" (to adapt to an existing space), which could be rendered with something like my suggestion (in my wildest dreams).
Respect
Derek
