English term

F-Clamp, Screw Clamp, Speed Clamp

English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering DIY & Carpentry tools
Are these three clamps refer to the same type of clamp, or not?

I assume screw clamp is a more general name.

British English please..

It's 2 different classifications. In the pix below you cal see a Speed Clamp which is a Screw Clamp and another which is not.

You're absolutely right. The F and the G refer to the shapes of the clamps.
Non-ProZ.com Aug 3, 2005:
If Screw Clamp is a general term, as I assume, then F-Clamp and G-Clamp should be two different types of the screw clamps named according to their shapes (letters F and G)

hmm

an F-clamp is a clamp which is the shape of the letter F

a screw clamp is any clamp (not necessarily F-shaped) which is adjusted via a screw

a speed clamp I imagine is just a fast-acting clamp, irrespective of its shape and whether it is adjusted via screw

Speed clamp:

From these links you can see that an F-clamp and screw clamp is the same thing, but a speed clamp is basicaly an F-clamp with an added feature.
