German term

Leistungsabzeichen

German to English Other Military / Defense military
From CV, basic training with the marines:

Leistungsabzeichen Bronze
Systemlehrgang gut

Is there an equivalent in BE (or AE, for that matter - I take anything)?

TIA

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Sep 5, 2003:
Thanks, Mumtaz! However, the Leistungsabzeichen Bronze is awarded for mainly "athletic" achievements during the basic training such as 20 km walk within a certain time, target shooting, swimming... Here's a quote from the site Nicole provided:
Since the general "Sportabzeichen" can be translated as "achievement badge," this might work here as well, although it does sound like boy scouts. ;-)

This page contains some infos about Legion of Merit:

Thanks, Nicole! Must have been ESP, since you answered my cry for help/more information before I even posted it! Great site!
Non-ProZ.com Sep 5, 2003:
more info He continued to work for the Elektronikstaffel des Marinefliegergeschwaders I, so that would make it the marines, wouldn't it? But I am a completely non-militiary person... Any enlightenment is welcome!
Kim Metzger Sep 5, 2003:
Are you sure it's the 'marines'? Marineinfantrie or Marine - which would be navy.
Non-ProZ.com Sep 5, 2003:
? In order to shed some more light on the importance of this "Abzeichen" - does anyone know what merits this Leistungsabzeichen after/during the basic training with the marines? Does everyone get it as some kind of "grade"?

achievement insignia/badge

I'm not familiar with anything directly equivalent in the US Army, but I think this is the idea.

On second thought, I wouldn\'t use \'badge\' for the US military. Badges are associated with the Boy Scouts. Was your person in the marines or in the navy?

NCO Professional Development Ribbon

Established by the Secretary of the Army 10 APR 1981 and effective 01 AUG 1981,
the NCO Professional Development Ribbon is awarded to members of the US Army,
Army National Guard, and Army Reserve for successful completion of designated
NCO professional development courses.
The Army Achievement Medal
[AAM]

Established by the Secretary of the Army on 10 APR 1981. Awarded to members of the
US Armed Forces, not a general officer, who distinguish themselves by
\"Meritorious Achievement in a Non-combat Area on or after 01 AUG 1981.\"

Again, my experience is with the US military, so I don\'t know the British, etc. terminology. I would translate Marinefliegergeschwader as Navy Air Wing.

There is no equivalent for this in the US military - maybe ribbon for unit service achievement.
