And because my current job is reasonably well paid, it's hard to leave.

Have you ever researched how much money you could make as a freelancer? There was a guy here not long ago who was boasting that he 'broke the record and made 100k in a year by translating' and most people here were waxing lyrical about his exploits. Just food for thought.

... as a freelancer before. Not that keen to go back to it at the moment though.

So it doesn't pay any better than the in-house position then?

Not in my case, no. But there are other factors that make me not want to freelance as well, such as not wanting to work from home all the time.

Rarely Nov 10, 2021

Sometimes I do, but it's pretty rare. I used to get bored in other jobs, not in translation.

All the time. Translation is very boring work. Depends of course on what you're translating but seeing as most of us translate technical/legal/financial/business sort of texts, how could you not get bored?

I used to get bored when I worked with other things (I was a business manager for 20 years), but since I started translating, I rarely ever get bored. I hope you find something you love to do, like I did, one day.

But then you complain that your translator colleagues are boring...

Because many of them are. Life can be complicated, Kay! No need to take my generalisations about translators personally.
