Source text - English I’ve seen far too many broke, busted, and disgusted Christians over the years. I’ve heard one too many gospel songs about mountains with rough sides and children needing shoes. Even at twelve years old, I understood how preposterous it was that we lived that way. It never made sense to me when they told me the stories of Abraham and Solomon. I had heard all about how big God was in biblical times, and how He’s “...the same yesterday and today and forever.”2 I wondered how a God so big would have us live the way we did, especially since we worked so hard to stay in His favor.
Translation - French J’ai vu beaucoup trop de Chrétiens brisés, abattus et dégoûtés au fil des ans. J’ai entendu des chansons évangéliques de trop sur les montagnes aux flancs rugueux et les enfants qui ont besoin de chaussures. Même à douze ans, j’ai compris à quel point il était absurde que nous vivions de cette façon. Cela n’a jamais eu de sens pour moi lorsqu’ils me racontaient les histoires d’Abraham et de Salomon. J’avais tout entendu sur la grandeur de Dieu à l’époque biblique et sur la façon dont Il est « ...le même hier et aujourd’hui et pour toujours2. » Je me demandais comment un Dieu si grand pouvait nous faire vivre comme nous vivions, d’autant plus que nous avons travaillé si dur pour rester en Sa faveur.
