Spanish term

de la parte exterior de la cueva

Non-PRO Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Literature.
I would like to know the best translation of this phrase from Latin American Spanish into American English. Translator colleagues from Spain, feel free to send me your suggestions as well. This is a translation about the story of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves.

Is okay to translate it as" from the exterior part of the cave or perhaps from the external part of the cave?

Here is the full paragraph for your review:

“”Cuando se aproximaban a la salida, el ladrón se detuvo, escuchó nervioso el jaleo que venía de la parte exterior de la cueva y apagó la antorcha. Entonces Alí Babá se quedó inmóvil sin saber qué hacer, quería ir a su casa a por cestos para llenarlos de oro antes de que los ladrones volvieran, pero no se atrevía a salir de la cueva ya que fuera se escuchaba una enorme discusión.....

Dec 27, 2021 10:56: Beatriz Ramírez de Haro changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): María Perales, Simone Taylor, Beatriz Ramírez de Haro

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

José Patrício Dec 30, 2021:
OK,OK
Eileen Brophy Dec 29, 2021:
@José Patricio I wouldn't use Wordreference to ask questions. The only part of Wordreference I would consult is the Collins section, but it's not a good site for asking questions, because a lot of answers are given by non natives who don't know English well.
José Patrício Dec 29, 2021:
OK, it's quite good. A native is the best. It's better but it's not bad. Do you agree?
Eileen Brophy Dec 28, 2021:
@José Patricio Wordreference is not the best place to ask such questions. I am a native English speaker and know how to use English perfectly well. I think there was only one excess in the use of "the."
Eileen Brophy Dec 28, 2021:
@Andrew Bramhall My comment regarding José Patricio's answer was referring to this "Reference: from the outside of the cave" which appeared at the top of his answer and which I thought was what he suggested and not the grammatically incorrect reference information, so I don't think his answer was very wrong. There was only an excess in the use of "the."

neutral Taña Dalglish : Andrew, José Patricio's entry was there before yours and he was encouraged to enter his response. I believe it is a bit of an unspoken ProZ rule and one of courtesy to allow him to enter his proposal which was first in line. Regards.

at the outer exit from the cave

Ali Baba was hiding at the outer exit from the cave. He wanted to fill baskets with gold before the other bandits arrived, but he was discovered by another.
Example sentence:

ES: 'AliBaba se escondía a la salida externa de la cueva. Quería rellenar cestos con el oro restante antes de llegada de otros bandidos, pero fue descubierto por un otro.'

Thanks for your help Lisa.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Taña Dalglish : The point at which you exit the cave. (From the perspective of being inside it) you'd simply refer to this as the entrance, the exit or mouth of the cave. IMO, "outer exit from" is ungrammatical./redundant at best.

agree Eileen Brophy : I would say from outside of the cave, and eliminate the first "the" José it's not used in English

thanks
agree Simone Taylor : That's right, without the initial "the". Actually I would drop the "of" as well.

thanks
agree Taña Dalglish : Agree with Eiileen. The first "the" is not necessary. Enter as an answer so that it can be graded and closed// "... listened nervously to the commotion coming from outside the cave ...".

thanks
neutral Andrew Bramhall : From outside the cave, neither'the' required;Nadie de la parte exterior no entró en el castillo. No one of the outside didn't enter in the castle. No, " Nobody (from) outside entered the castle".
