David I agree with Gary and am not sure Cosmoline would be right for ружейная смазка.
Gun grease, thick alcaline stuff, is used as a conservant against corrosion. You have to slice it. http://www.mnc.emenci.com/sles_ins/xim_push_salo.html
Rifle grease is a basically a lubricant, comes in jars.
i have rifle lubricant - ruzheinaya skazka
rifle grease - pushechnoe salo
i am curious how cosmoline relates to all this stuff.
