Думаю, всем известное восклицание. What would be the closest equivalent in English? No specific context. If some English speakers never heard it, it's what you say to somebody when they have said something that you either don't want to happen, or don't want to be the case. Couple of examples:
- I think i may have contracted avian flu.
- Типун тебе на язык!

- I wish my boss dropped dead!
- Типун тебе на язык!

- I am afraid they will raise our taxes again this year.
- Типун тебе на язык!

Whatever!

In modern usage, in reply to anything, implies a total lack of interest in what has been said. Not sure if this quite covers it.

Misha, I know that dictionaries are outdated. Yet I felt it necessary to deliver the above versions to those who possibly never opened it. For you to know, типун тебе на язык! is far from common use in Russia today...

Все редложения от других хорошие. Но в этом русском выражении всё же - пожелание зла.А сказать "заткни своё зяпало", например,также, как и все его английские предложенные варианты, есть более приказ вообще замолчать.
