Multiple-pipe systems have to be shielded, and may need to have differing pipe lengths in order to produce consistent levels of performance in all cylinders. Also, consider that some engine compartments don't have enough room to install a bilge pump, much less a second exhaust pipe. The problem becomes even more evident if the engine is equipped with electronic fuel injection..."
