German term

Gemeindeordnung

German to English Social Sciences Religion Lutheran church
"Gemeindeordnung" comes up in dictionaries and glossaries as "municipal code" or "local regulations" but here it specifically refers to the constitution of a Lutheran church. Is there a specific translation that's usually used in this context?

"Gemeindeordnung der Deutschen Lutherischen Kirche in PLACE NAME
(Die in dieser Gemeindeordnung verwendeten Personenbezeichnungen gelten für Frauen und Männer.)"

Thanks!

there may be be some legal considerations here, as I believe that not all churches are chartered in a similar fashion

(congregational) constitution

Although a congregation had existed here since at least 1844, Pastor Pfister apparently attempted to put better order into its existence. In the earliest extant record book of the parish, there is a congregational constitution or "Gemeinde Ordnung" dated 1869 and containing 28 articles.

The Constitution of Salem Lutheran Church was written in German by Pastor Samuel Estel (1872-1874). The transcription below was taken from the "Commemorative for the Constitution of the Salem German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession" dated Memorial Day, May 30, 1994.

community rules

"The church's local community rules" may be another option. There are over 9 million hits for "community rules", but I wouldn't claim many of them refer to the Church....

I'm a little surprised to see well over 50,000 googles for "Lutheran community", FWIW...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Kim Metzger : You'll also find plenty of googles for "gay community". In a formal church context, congregation would seem more appropriate.

You may be right; you may not. We are talking Lutheran here, though.
