German term

Reifenstahl

German to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting Steel
Anyone know what this is? A type of steel manufactured by ISPAT Germany.

Can't find anything on it in Google (perhaps, I suppose, because of certain famous people with the same surname).

Non-ProZ.com Nov 21, 2003:
Context The context isn't particularly helpful: a list of types of steel that this group manufacturs, including "Automatenstahl", "Weichstahl", and "Federstahl". If it is the type of steel used in tires, is "tire steel" an adequate term?

BTW: Regardless of what Leni's surname is, 2,650 hits think that it is Reifenstahl. http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=leni+r...
tectranslate ITS GmbH Nov 21, 2003:
And if you have any more context, that would be helpful. It could be the steel used in tires.
tectranslate ITS GmbH Nov 21, 2003:
BTW: Leni's surname is not Reifenstahl.

The steel woven wire used to reinforce road tyres.
So:
Tyre steel, tyre wire.
Don't know if there's an insider word for this in English. Maybe someone else knows one.
Peer comment(s):

neutral transatgees : I'd go for the more general "tyre steel" unless you are certain that this ISPAT plant makes drawn wire. They may sell tyre steel in the form of rod or billet for further processing by others, in which case it would be wrong to call this product tyre wire.

Totally good argument!
agree David Moore (X) : ....with tyre steel; reasonably good response on google (t*I*re for the USA)

agree Mike McDonald (X) : Staying with the billet idea, they could be for making seamless railway wheel steel tyres, using the patented Krupp process: http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krupp

agree Richard Benham : Don't see where tyre/tire steel can actually be wrong....
