German term

abbestehen

German to English Social Sciences History
The following comes from a legal document (deposition of a witness) from 1764. The incident involves a disputed tithe of grain, which the Protestant parish of Rosenberg claimed the Emperor had granted to their pastor, while the Catholics insisted it was for the Catholic parish priest at Rosenberg.

I've found references that define the verb "abbestehen" as "abmieten," but still don't see how this fits in the context.

pledge; vouchsafe

diesen Zehenden dem Catholischen Rosenberger Pfarrer abbestanden > pledged (promised) this tithe over to / vouchedsafe the Catholic Priest at Rosenberg this tithe.

vouchsafe: OED granted, and not only in a condescending manner.

Pledge etc. still arguably retains the sense of 'abmieten' cf. AUT Bestandvertrag as in Mietvertrag and Bestandverhältnis as in a tenancy.
Example sentence:

vouchsafe 1. to tell or give something to someone: 2. to tell or give something to someone: .
