Actually to do with jewellery manufacture for heraldic purposes
It is to do with a signet ring "massiv und verbödet". I know what it means, just haven't got an English word for it. In this case the stone in which the crest/coat of arm as has been engraved is set into a signet ring mounting where the ring is closed under the stone. You cannot see the stone from the underside. Grateful for any suggestions.
