German term
Abtaubegrenzungsfühler
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Food & Drink
Refrigeration Devices for Food Counters
"[4.4-9]
Back to the food counter fridges after a brief foray into hotels (think I might need a stay in a "Wellness-Hotel" after I'm done with this job!). Abtau is thawing or defrosting. My best guess for "Abtaubegrenzungsfühler" is "defrost limit switch", but that only gets one hit (on a German site). Does anyone know what this thing might be called in English? TIA for your help.

defrost sensor
Looks to me like a very simple "defrost sensor" is far more likely ...

Comment: "I tend to agree with Kenneth (in his comment to Krokodil) that this is a case of hyperprecision. Defrost sensor should really be sufficient in English. But thank you both very much for your assistance - appreciate your help."

defrost limit sensor
Your guess is as good as (or maybe better than) mine, but a "Fühler" usually suggests a sensor to me.
I'd prefer "defrost" to "thawing", but maybe this is just a matter of personal taste.
Anyway, hope it helps!

Of course, there may be a specialised term for this kind of thing, but I\'m afraid I\'m not aware of one ....

Aha, I see you entered \"sensor\" for \"Fühler\" in the glossary yourself once !

Well, sometimes I\'m a little sceptical of Google hits .....

: Perhaps 'defrost temperature limit sensor' because I think it relates to the temperature.

Yes, a good point.-

: ahh, the trials of German hyperprecision. It's probably the sensor for the Abtaubegrenzungsfunktion; 'defrost limiting sensor' may be as good as you'll get.

Agreed - but I'd still slightly prefer "limit" to "limiting" ...

Discussion
Actually, I meant to say that my best guess was "defrost limit SENSOR" - just realise I put "defrost limit SWITCH". Sorry to the bungle.
But "defrost limit sensor" only gets one Google hit. "Defrost limit switch" might get a few more, actually, but that is not what is meant here.
