"Sollten Sie einen Schaden feststellen, notieren Sie diesen auf den Papieren des Frachtführers sowie auf Ihrem Formular und lassen Sie sich den Schaden bestätigen."
Talking about taking delivery of some sort of food cooling device and checking it for transport damage. The meaning of "lassen Sie sich den Schaden bestätigen" isn't completely clear to me. Does it mean the customer or whoever "Sie" is double-checks the damage himself? Or is he meant to have someone else check it to confirm it? TIA for your clarification.

take open delivery
As an engineer in the Public Works Department, I used to go to the goods arrival yard to take delivery of the goods for which our office was the consignee. If we notice damages on the packages, which we perceive to cause problems afterwards, we ask for the open delivery note. This involves the preparation of a special delivery note on the part of the yard authorities, who take cognizance of the damages and make a suitable entry in the above note. We call the entire process as taking open delivery
