Lancashireman Feb 22, 2005:
Coincidentally, there have been two 'Durchzug' questions on this site in the last week. The answer was always 'something to do with acceleration'!
Non-ProZ.com Feb 22, 2005:
Andrew, what about the Durchzug part?

niedertourig = low rpm (revs per minute)
Durchzug = acceleration from low to high speed
\'variable speed\' is the technical term used to describe drills where the speed can be varied.

..this may be a special design by the manufacturer. A low revving, high torque motor will heat up very quickly, because it's internal fan will not move enough air at low speed; hence the need for external cooling. (dazugehörige Kühlmöglichkeit). Durchzugsbelüftet is "open-circuit air cooled", i.e the ventilation channels, etc are in the motor, but the air must be moved through the circuit somehow. I don't really understand the combination fo niedrigtourig and durchzug, unless it is a special design that moves lot of air a low speeds???

neutral Andrew D : It sounds unusual that in an operation theatre you would use an open-circut air cooled drill, im my experiance they were always closed, for sterilising reasons.

Agree wiht your sterilization concern; hence the need to close the circuit with appropriately sealed ducts or tubes that form to the forced air ventilation system. I've never heard of your defin w.r.t. rpm and power in 30 years of dealing w. motors.
