foisonnement

I am translating a technical guide on pharmaceutical water production. The word "foisonnement" occurs several times.

A cet effet, il faudra recueillir les débits instantanés d’utilisation en tous points et les temps d’utilisation associés afin de définir les volumes d’eau nécessaire par point de puisage, par heure et par jour. Ces informations permettront de définir les débits de soutirage maximum et par conséquent le débit de distribution, la capacité de production d’eau à usage pharmaceutique nécessaire et la capacité de stockage associée.

Le foisonnement est un paramètre déterminant dans la démarche car permet le calcul du débit maximal de soutirage instantané.

Clearly it seems to refer to “extent” “abundance” but the text does not specify of what : draw-off points ? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If the IEC definition also holds (water) for water, then 'simultaneity factor' might be a workaround ...

However, 'coincidence factor' sounds right for your case where, if I understand things, there are several sources of water supply which, via storage tanks, feed outlets. Not all outlets will be discharging water at the same time, so instantaneous input into the tanks does not need to match the potential maximum output, and the question of 'coincidence' serves to calculate how much water is likely to be removed from the storage capacity over a given time and whether it can be replaced by input into storage before the next drawdown.

In many contexts, foisonnement is the 'bulking factor'. Usually, as the term suggests, it implies an increase in whatever is being measured, but it can also be a decrease. In your case, foisonnement appears to be a decrease.

diversity factor

Found this reference.
Diversity factor: It is the ratio of the sum of the individual maximum demands of the various subdivisions of a system (or part of a system) to the maximum demand of the whole system (or part of the system) under consideration. From: Ocean Energy Modeling and Simulation with Big Data, 2020
