Flemish term

nochtans

Flemish to English Other Linguistics usage
I'm puzzled by the usage of 'nochtans' in the context given below, since it doesn't seem to fit with the definition or translation given by van Dale.

The general context is a letter from a bidder on a constuction project to the project coordinating organisation. The source is Belgian (which is why I'm posting it (initially) in the Flemish-English pair.

Context:

Yet,

Yet could work here, even though it is far from elegant. Then again, neither is the source text :-)
I would be tempted to replace it with : Especially in view of the fact that, .......

agree Dennis Seine : agree with your second solution

neutral writeaway : awkward (native) English. also a bit too poetic for such a text imno.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "As this answer was the most helpful (I used 'This in particular because...), it gets the points, but as this meaning seems to be rare (at least) based on the other answers, the lexical meaning goes in the glossary."

They say they were unhappy about that person not turning up for the 1st meeting, despite his extensive knowledge on that type of bridges.
