My suggestion was based on Abdul Latif Bidin\'s glossary. Here is what I found in that glossary:
1. armchair critic ----> pengkritik kerusi empuk
2. armchair theory ----> teori kerusi empuk.
So, my suggestion was based on the same pattern of translation.

pelabur yang hanya pandai berteori; pelabur tanpa pengalaman langsung
- figuratively "armchair _ _ _" describes someone who theorizes without the benefit of practical experience, i.e. participating vicariously.
- this phrase should not be translated literally. there may be a figurative equivalent in Malay but I can't think of any.
