mitten im Erlebnis!

German to English Marketing Tourism & Travel
Title heading on a brochure for a 4-star hotel is a small but exclusive village in the Alps

"Willkommen im Hotel... - mitten im Erlebnis!"

Stands alone as above...

I'm thinking along the lines of "at the heart of your holiday experience..." but am not entirely happy with that, and it's really too long...

Anyone feeling inspired???

Discussion

Mack Tillman Jul 14, 2016:
Amidst adventure Is shorter and conveys the same.
Noelle Crist-See Jul 13, 2016:
In the middle of adventure How about "In the middle of adventure "? I know Erlebnis is an experience, but we all know life is an adventure, so why not continue that metaphor?
Ramey Rieger (X) Jun 13, 2016:
Hi Björn Yes, there's plenty of examples of pathetic marketing slogans, but I wasn'r fishing for an agree there. Just objecting to IT. Have a good one!
Björn Vrooman Jun 12, 2016:
Could agree to that, although there's ample precedent for using the phrase (and we're not talking about translated pages).

I do like "where the action is," but I'm afraid the hotel may be quite the opposite (see related question about wine and relaxation). Your "rejuvenation" may be closer to the idea.

In any case, mine wasn't offered as an answer, but as part of an explanation of what the German actually means. Somehow, Lesley will need to sort out this page-long response.

I hope we'll get some insights into the decision-making process here, as I was pretty disappointed that there was zero effort by another answerer when it came to closing "herumlaviert."
Ramey Rieger (X) Jun 12, 2016:
In the center of it all is truly poor marketing text! An undefined 'it' opens more questions than it invites curiosity or enthusiasm. I would never use 'it' unless there is a clear prior definition. IT just isn't done.
Björn Vrooman Jun 12, 2016:
Is anyone taking bets on how many answers we'll have until Wednesday next week? Or should I start a pool?
Björn Vrooman Jun 11, 2016:
@Adrian and Lesley This time, I'll have to disagree, Adrian. It's not only an Austrian thing. The tagline seems to be popular in Switzerland too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn7nkQ9kSGY

In Germany, you'd rather stick to DSF and its ad from the 1990s:
"Mittendrin statt nur dabei."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-tpvLR9Zj4

You'd also say "Mitten im Geschehen."

A tourism reference from Germany:
"Mitten im Erlebnis sind Sie etwa an den Steilküsten der Isle of Noss."
http://www.hl-cruises.de/reise-finden/BRE1510

It's quite reminiscent of the DSF ad - in other words: "in the midst of nature."

Or: "in the center of it all"

"The Skyline Hotel & Waterpark keeps guests in the center of it all!"
http://skylinehotelniagarafalls.com/attractions/

"THE CLEVELANDER SOUTH BEACH IS AT CENTER OF IT ALL"
http://www.clevelander.com/

"In the center of it all, visitors can enjoy Mt. Hood which draws skiers, hikers, mountain climbers and nature lovers year round."
http://www.celiloinn.com/newgorge/about.php

"Whatever your choice of activities the Crowne Plaza Hotel is located
in the center of it all."

Adrian MM. (X) Jun 11, 2016:
Erlebnis - an Austrian cultural dimension Is everyone picking up on the Austrian spin? I visit Erlebnis-Pools every month, but don't drown.
Mack Tillman Jun 11, 2016:
Playing with words! How about: your experience oasis. Metaphorically speaking, you can imagine the oasis being the center, the middle, the focus. So that could cover your "mitten im" and of course experience would cover the "Erlebnis" bit. Or perhaps "Welcome to the Hotel ... for your soul experience!"
The Hotel Post uses:
Welcome to the Hotel Post**** –
The heart of the experience.
But I don't feel too comfortable with the last option.
Lesley Robertson MA, Dip Trans IoLET (asker) Jun 11, 2016:
More info To be perfectly honest, it just seems to be advertising lingo - the brochure is full of photos of people relaxing, in the spa, eating and drinking, hiking and skiing, lying in the sauna - it's not a hotel specifically for sports enthusiasts or relaxation seekers but for people with money who want to treat themselves to a luxurious break. The word "Genuss" is used again and again. As is the word "Eintauchen" The next page of the brochure goes like this: "Ausklang, Begegnung, Einstimmung (!!!!!?????) - so viele Geschichten beginnen mit einem guten Glas Wein. Schön, dass sie bei uns spielen." This is accompanied by two photos - one of a couple arriving at the hotel reception. The second of the same couple drinking red wine. That's it - nothing else on that page. It's all rather vague - sounds nice but doesn't really mean anything when it comes down to it....
Ramey Rieger (X) Jun 11, 2016:
Hi Lesley! I immediately thought of ...Where the action is! But without knowing a bit more about the hotel and exactly what these adventures are, it's relly hard to tell.
More info, please!

the heart of your holiday/vacation

My suggestion sorts gets the "mitten in" bit, but the Erlebnis?
More thoughts:

where rejuvenation begins/was invented = although money and intelligence are not necessarily synonymous
where the action is - focus on hiking/skiing
the/your hub/center of well-being

In the heart of it all.

Another suggestion. Like you, I had "heart" come to mind right away.
As a general note, I use about 1/10 the number of exclamation points in English as German copywriters seem to.
Note from asker:
Me too - German-speakers just love exclamation marks. They scatter them here, there and everywhere... ;-)

German term (edited): (AUT) mitten im Erlebnis!

nestling at the centre/center of fun-events

'Erlebnis-Pools' and 'Event/Erlebnis-Hotels' are catchphrases and part of the Austrian scene, promisiing not only a children-sporty, but also a sensuous massaging and romantic time for all.

Eventing: for horsey types only.

Refs. obviously thought unnecessary by others.

in the middle of the event/events!

or in the midst of the event ..
Just to add a slight variation, I see nobody suggested it so far.
Example sentence:

.....offer far from street noise and, nevertheless, in the middle of the event the ideal frame for meetings, workshops or also unconstrained talks.

Your experience oasis.

Better late then never; and to inflate the answers.

IMO the hotel seems to be a place offering relaxation, the place to chill out and unwind or wind down. And if you have the picture of an oasis in mind. That's where the people meet that usually have had a strenuous/stressful journey.

your story starts here

setting the stage for you [/for your story]
our stage, your story (see Hilton link)
the location for your story (see Waikiki Parc link)
your story awaits (ditto)

Does the rest of the brochure do anything else with the theme of "so viele Geschichten beginnen mit einem guten Glas Wein. Schön, dass sie bei uns spielen."? If so, and if the idea of "mitten im Erlebnis" is total immersion in the "experience", playing an active part, creating your own story, your own memories, rather than looking on from the sidelines, with the hotel then being the stage upon which all the action will unfold (even if that action only involves relaxing in luxurious surroundings), then something along the lines of the above may be an option.
