English term

footed (ladder)

English to French Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
Ladders must be of good construction and free from obvious defects. They must be of a type and size suitable for the work in hand and must be lashed, *footed* or otherwise made secure when in use. Ladders must not be painted. When not being used, ladders must be stored securely.

Je ne suis pas certaine de comprendre le sens de "footed" dans ce contexte, cela signifie-t-il que l'échelle doit être fixée au sol (au niveau des pieds) ?

Merci d'avance pour vos lumières.

les pieds bien appuyés au sol

Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : they want far more than that // "ou toute autre formule du genre" won't do if someone risks breaking its neck - in some cases every word counts – in this ST not even a hint of poetic licence allowed

agree kashew : Rather wordy. Maybe more specific than fixé? Blocked? Boxed?

thanks - but I think whatever is used must be screwed/bolted, otherwise what's the point? Initially it means someone at the foot of the ladder stabilizing it with his foot, innit?
