Wciśniecie tego pedału przełączało automatyczne skrzynie biegów (liczba mnoga użyta celowo) na bieg jałowy (pozycja N) niezależnie od położenia wybieraka skrzyni biegów.
Nie pedał sprzęgła, bo tam nie było klasycznego sprzęgła włączanego i wyłączanego pedałem.

Releasing the pedal returned the transmissions to the selected lever position. Even though the transmissions were automatic, switching the transfer unit shift control between ranges required them to be in neutral, and the neutral pedal allowed the driver to do this without shifting the transmission range selector into neutral.

W lotnictwie coś takiego zwie się "dwuster" ;-)
Tam nie ma sprzęgła sterowanego pedałem. Nie szukaj analogii do układów znanych z samochodów osobowych.

Wyrażenie "pedał biegu jałowego" w języku polskim będzie miało co najwyżej śladowe użycie, bo to rozwiązanie nie było po tej stronie Wielkiej Wody w ogóle stosowane, a polskie piśmiennictwo o szczegółach przeniesienia napędu obcych i niepopularnych czołgów jest bardzo ubogie.
BTW transmisje czołgowe to mój konik od wielu lat. W tym temacie mamy poważną inequality of arms na moją korzyść ;-)
