French term
trépidations
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Automotive / Cars & Trucks
This appears in a document concerning vibration testing in cars. In fact, it's part of the title: "Trépidations au banc à vérins" - and the document is all about testing using a post rig (a 2- or 4-post test rig, a bit like the 7-post test rigs used in Formula 1).
I understand this is all about vibrations - but I cannot find a suitable "jargon" term for "trépidations". I considered "judder" - but I don't think it's that. Here is the opening sentence from the document:
Les trépidations sont des vibrations basses fréquences ( 5 et 40Hz) ressenties au niveau du plancher, du siège et du volant.
Hmm - "Vibrations are low-frequency vibrations...." - I think you can see my problem here! Any guidance would be much appreciated.

: rumble is good! Though the term generally applies to what you can hear: even 40 Hz is barely audible

Discussion
And how about Oscillation? "- the repetitive variation, typically in time, of some measure about a central value (often a point of equilibrium) or between two or more different states. Familiar examples include a swinging pendulum and AC power. The term vibration is sometimes used more narrowly to mean a mechanical oscillation but sometimes is used to be synonymous with "oscillation" "- Wiki
