German term
trinkfreudig (Beschreibung von Rum)
German to English
Marketing
Food & Drink

Hi there,
OK, agree that 'quaffable' does seem to be used mainly with cheaper wines, but not so 'gluggable'. Here are some examples:
Cape Mentelle Cabernet Merlot 2006 75cl Bottle (£13)
Sweet liquorice and blackcurrants, hints of vanilla and blueberry, are a classic definition of the 'Trinders' style. The wine is slippery smooth and immensely gluggable with just the faintest suggestion of tannin. The delicious array of flavours linger on the palate. ...

Note from asker:
Thank you - but are these actually technical terms for describing wine? Gluggable sounds quite informal to me, but I'm no expert ... According to wine.com, quaffable is "used to describe a wine that is pleasant to drink but not deserving of careful tasting attention". This does not sound like actual praise. |
Thanks for finding these references. I'm still undecided - I think I'll use either gluggable or drinkable. Thanks to all of you for your readiness to help! |

drinkable (or smooth)
Note from asker:
I was actually thinking of the term drinkable but I'm not sure if trinkfreudig and süffig are synonyms. |

palatable
A positive word used often for good food and drink.
e.g. "Sunset Rum is a golden rum that has a unique, smooth, palatable flavour"

Thank you, another term worth considering :-) |

: From a nonnative POV this looks more enticing than just "drinkable".
