English term

attach to

English Law/Patents Insurance
THIS POLICY DOES NOT COVER liability assumed by the Insured by Agreement under any Contract unless such liability would have attached to the Insured even in the absence of such Agreement.

How would you explain the exact meaning of "attach to" in the sentence starting as .... such a liability would have attached to the Insured .... as above?

Thanks in advance

is assigned to, or accorded to, or awarded to, or ascribed to

In other words, unless this liability would have been ascribed to the Insured even in the absence of such Agreement.

Probably another way to say it is "unless this liability would have been the responsibility of the Insured even in the absence of such Agreement."

Thanks, Jenni. I enjoyed your blog, particularly the art and science of looking at a text, with the link to the video about the difference between the eye movements of a professional editor and an average reader. Fascinating (even with my petit French).
agree B D Finch : Except for "awarded to", which doesn't fit the context.

pertaining

The insurance covers only liabilities that are not related to specific agreements under different contracts, but would pertain to the Insured in any case.
