: I have some doubts that this refers to 'coup' in that way, and there is nothing to confirm that it is an increase in their FREQUENCY; it could equally well be an increase in their degree of movement, which'd sit slightly more easily with the EN wording

Well, I don't know how you can tell it doesn't fit, but if you want us to help you, you'll really have to give us a bit more context. For a start, what is it that makes you think this doesn't fit here? And you might tell us a bit more about what this machine is / does, it's all very mysterious at the moment. I see nothing in the context as given to indicate any special or unusual meaning of 'stroke' here.

I think your qualms about 'course' are unfounded, but without having access to the whole of the context you have in front of you, it is of course impossible to tell for sure.
But do be wary — I think it is highly unlikely that these 'end plates' actually strike blows, and much more likely that they have adjustable travel. I suggest you check very carefully with the remainder of your document...
