I have just tested DeepL on several text fragments in three of my working languages. It successfully managed to avoid some terminological pitfalls but the terminology wasn't consistent throughout the translated fragment. The resulting text flowed generally nicely - I dare say, deceptively nicely because it looked as if it were crafted out of man-made parallel texts to the extent possible, but switched to the standard messy MT beyond that. That's in keeping with this whole trend towards so-called "gender-neutral language". Another big thing in the "progressive" company I work for:)

I just downloaded the DeepL free version. At first glance it looks pretty decent.
I have postedited many DeepL translations for my customers and I know it can be pretty good.
Likewise, I use Linguee on a daily basis. That is my go-to site for terminology.

Its usefulness depends on the complexity of your text. For texts of reasonably common nature it's quite useful. For texts that are highly specialised and/or use atypical expressions, it's utterly worthless. I work with complex texts and don't remember ever finding anything useful in Linguee.

One thing I have noticed is that unilingual end clients, when needing a text in a target language they don't understand, have no idea whether the target language MT output makes any sense or not. They are quite prepared to entrust important documents to a professional translator, even if the MT output is actually quite good.

I've heard your criticism about Linguee before. At times, as you say, it can fail for atypical expressions.
On the other hand, I find it very useful for ES>EN legal translation, along with other fields.

Purely terminological - none. I just search the web, but I have linguee.com/.fr, sciencedirect.com and a few other sites explicitly removed from search results because their information is so indiscriminate and lacking sufficient context.

I have found Linguee to be unreliable, as nobody checked those entries for accuracy really. Some are correct, but if you rely on it fully, it can get tricky.

Are you being serious? If all the translators of the world stopped working for a month, I can't see anything bad happening actually.
Imagine on the other hand if all the rubbish collectors of the world stopped working for a month. Or nurses. Or pharmaceutical companies manufacturing important medicines. Then we'd have a problem. But translators? Sorry, our work just ain't that important.
