What are Stem Cells?
Stem cells are cells present in all multicellular organisms that can multiply (self-renew) and differentiate. In humans, stem cells have the capacity to become every cell within an adult human being, for example, skin cells, brain cells, and blood cells.
In a developing embryo, stem cells can differentiate into all of the specialized embryonic tissues. In adult humans, stem and progenitor cells act as a repair system for the body, replenishing specialized cells.
Stem cell research has been going on for over 50 years, because stem cells have a unique ability to divide and replicate repeatedly. In addition, their unspecialized nature allows them to become a wide variety of tissue types, which gives them enormous potential for use in regenerative medicine.
What Types of Stem Cells Exist?
Several broad categories of stem cells exist, including:
• Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs) – This is the only controversial stem cell type. ESCs are derived from blastocysts, a stage in the developing embryo. They can become any cell type within the human body.
• Perinatal Stem Cells – These cells are obtained during the period immediately before and after birth. Collection of these cell types does not impact the development of the fetus or newborn, so they are non-controversial.
• Adult stem cells – These are non-controversial cells found in living adults. Everyone has stem cells present in their bone marrow, fat (adipose tissue), and many other sites.
• Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) – iPS cells were discovered in 2006. They are non-controversial, because they are adult cells that are genetically reprogrammed in a lab. Like embryonic stem cells, they can become any cell within the body.
• Cancer stem cells (CSCs) – Cancer stem cells are a type of stem cell that biotech and pharma companies are exploring, because they play a role in facilitating the formation of tumors. Companies exploring CSCs are interested to discover how be manage and prevent cancer.
Originally, all stem cells were classified as either adult stem cells or embryonic stem cells (ESCs). However, a diverse range of stem cell types have since been identified. When iPS cells were discovered in 2006, the research community acquired a new stem cell type that possessed most of the characteristics of ESCs, without the controversy.
Classifying Stem Cells by When They Are Collected
A simpler way to classify stem cells is by when they are collected, as described below:
• Embryonic stem cells – Stem cells derived from embryos (controversial).
• Pre-natal stem cells – Stem cells derived from the fetus or supporting structures (non-controversial).
• Post-natal stem cells – Stem cells derived from a recent newborn (non-controversial).
• Adult stem cells – Stem cells derived from living humans (non-controversial). Common types include mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and neural stem cells (NSCs), among others.
Totipotent vs. Pluripotent vs. Multipotent
To understand the functional potential of each stem cell type, scientists describe the degree to which they can differentiate into other cell types. Use the following definitions to understand the functional potential of stem cells:
• Totipotent stem cells – Cells that have the capacity to form an entire organism
• Pluripotent stem cells – Cell that give rise to most, but not all, tissues within an organism
• Multipotent stem cells – Undifferentiated cells that are limited to giving rise to specific populations of cells
Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) are totipotent cells that are derived from embryos that have been created at fertility clinics with informed donor consent. Pluripotent and multipotent stem cells have a more limited differentiation capacity than totipotent stem cells. For example, multipotent blood stem cells can differentiate into red cells, white cells and platelets in the blood, but cannot become any cell type.
How Are Stem Cells Being Used in Medicine?
Today, most medical clinics that offer stem cell treatments administer mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which they source from fat tissue or bone marrow. MSCs are a type of multipotent stem cell that are being explored for applications that include orthopedic repair, pain management, arthritis, asthma, and more. MSCs have a powerful ability to exert effects on other cells within the human body, a phenomenon known as “paracrine signaling.”
Although risks exist whenever cell therapies are given to humans, a large body of scientific evidence suggests that MSCs can be safe for patient use when properly administered and monitored. There is an additional layer of safety that occurs when the stem cells are multipotent (limited in their differentiation capacity). It is also safer for stem cells to be self-derived (“autologous”), rather than sourced from someone else (“allogeneic”).
Another stem cell type that is commonly used in medicine is the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC). HSC transplantation has been used for decades as a means of rebuilding the immune system after a patient undergoes radiation or chemotherapy.
What Are the Risks of Stem Cells?
There are many companies working to introduce legitimate stem cell therapies into clinical practice. Unfortunately, there are also unregulated stem cell groups that are offering unverified and unsafe stem cell therapies to patients.
One of the risks of totipotent stem cells (embryonic stem cells and iPS cells) is that they have the potential to produce uncontrolled proliferation. The biggest concern surrounding the clinical application of these cells is their tendency to form tumors. Pluripotent and multipotent stem cells have a lower risk of producing tumor formation, but can potentially create growth of the wrong tissue type for a specific location within the human body. Additionally, iPS cells are artificially manipulated in a laboratory process, so there is the possibility that the cells can act in unexpected ways.
Because many of these risks can be mitigated and monitored, stem cells are currently being explored in hundreds of clinical trials worldwide. The majority of these clinical trials involve the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). خامساً: توجية الفواتير غير المدفوعة الى الشئون القانونية لإتخاذ الاجراءات اللازمة فى حال التأخير عن الدفع.
سادسا: تسجيل الدفعات التي يتم تحويلها إلى الشئون القانونية كديون مشكوك في تحصيلها.
سابعا: تسجيل الديون التي يفيد القسم القانوني بأنه لا يمكن تحصيلها لإفلاس العميل كديون معدومة.
هو مقياس لمقدرة المنشأة على منح الائتمان أو الدين وجمع الأموال في الوقت المناسب، أي أنه معيار لتقييم الكفاءة الائتمانية وذلك عن طريق قياس عدد المرات التي تستطيع من خلالها المنشأة أن تحول ما لديها من حسابات مستحقة إلى نقد خلال فترة معينة، وبعبارة أخرى فهو عدد المرات في السنة التي تستطيع فيها المنشأة من جمع متوسط حساباتها المستحقة على الغير.
يعني ذلك أنه لو كانت إحدى المنشآت تبيع بالدين أو البيع مقابل الدفع بالآجل، فما هو متوسط عدد المرات في السنة الذي تقوم به المنشأة بتحصيل ديونها المترتبة على الغير جراء عمليات البيع الآجل؟
لذلك أهمية كبيرة من جوانب عدة أهمها السيولة المالية لدى المنشأة ومدى توافرها لتمويل مشاريع أخرى أو الاستثمار بشكل عام، أيضا لتقييم كفاءة المنشأة في تحصيل مستحقاتها أو ما يمكن أن نطلق عليه الموازنة بين منح الائتمان ومن ثم تحصيل الأموال وفي ذلك دلالة على سياسة المنشأة الائتمانية فبعض الشركات قد تمنح عملائها 30 يوما للدفع وبعضها 90 يوما والآخر 6 أشهر.. وذلك تبعا لقاعدة عملائها وجودتهم.
ارتفاع ناتج معدل دوران الحسابات المدينة قد يكون أمرا جيدا بالحفاظ على السيولة وعلى سياسة ائتمانية متحفظة بشأن منح الائتمان وأن الشركة لديها نسبة عالية من العملاء الجيدين الذين يقومون بسداد ديونهم بسرعة، ومن ناحية أخرى فإن لذلك تفسير أخر حيث أن سياسات الائتمان المتحفظة جداً قد تؤدي إلى فقد شريحة من العملاء وتوجههم إلى منافسين آخرين.

The main problem is that the adoption of such a sale strategy requires a systematized financial collection system to guarantee cash flow and also the payment of the whole value of the goods.
As already mentioned, a rise in the purchase cost makes the profit conditional on the last payment by the customer. If the customer delays a payment or two, this leads to a spiral of losses.
There are many methods that may be used for the collection of revenues, using the following steps:
First: Entering customer data and the account receivable.
Secondly: Scheduling payments.
Thirdly: Contacting the customer to remind him with the date of the next payment.
Fourthly: Billing when the payment is collected from the customer.
Fifthly: Filing unpaid invoices to Legal Affairs to take the necessary measures in the event of delay of payment.
Sixth: Listing the payments filed to the Legal Affairs as doubtful debts.
Seventh: Listing the debts that the legal section marks uncollectible due to bankruptcy of the client as non-existent.
It is a measure of the facility’s ability to grant credit or debit and collect the funds in a timely manner, that is, a criterion to assess the credit efficiency through the measurement of how many times the organization can turn its accounts receivable into cash during a certain period. In other words, it is the number of times per year the organization can collect the average of its accounts receivables.

The high output of the turnover rate of debit accounts might be a good thing to maintain liquidity and a conservative policy of granting credit, as well as showing that the company has a high percentage of good customers who pay their debts quickly.
On the other hand, there is another interpretation that over-conservative credit policies may lead a segment of the customers to head to other competitors.
When calculating the turnover of receivables, we rely on the average, which may not show some amounts, or may show that some of the amounts were paid earlier than the average. Thus, most of the debit accounts vary throughout the year.

Philipp, will the Dortmund game decide if the season is a good or a bad one for Bayern?
Philipp Lahm: No, I assume it won’t be a bad season for us because a bad season is one without titles
Right now, it’s looking very good for a title so it won’t be a bad season
It’s always the next game that counts
We are playing the cup semi-final against Dortmund and everybody knows we want to be in every competition until the very end and that means we have to win and progress to the final
However, it’s pretty certain that we won’t experience a bad season
The Dortmund game will decide if it’s a good or a very good season
Question: It seems you’re the only defender who isn’t experiencing injury problems
It's a bit strange considering you're the oldest defender at Bayern
What do you think about the situation and who do you think can play?
Philipp Lahm: First of all, it’s not a good situation we’re in
We have a lot of injured players not only in defence
At least there are several players that have been battling minor injuries in recent weeks
Some others had to play with more than just minor problems
I do think most of the defenders will be able to play though
I’m not sure exactly who can play – we’ll see about that in the next 48 hours or so
But right now I expect everyone to be at the coach’s disposal
Question: Against Mainz it looked as if you were still suffering the repercussions of the Real Madrid game
What are you doing to ideally prepare for Dortmund and get over that disappointment?
Philipp Lahm: You don’t need to do much at all
This is the DFB Cup semi-final against Dortmund and that’s one of the most motivating scenarios you can experience
We’re playing for the final in Berlin against our main competitor of the past years
I think we played Dortmund in each of the past six years which shows how exciting it is and how exceptional these two clubs are
If you’re not motivated for that game you’ve got the wrong job
You have a chance to qualify for a final, you’re playing at home – I can’t imagine anything more motivating
Question: After all these years as a professional it’s time to be sentimental as it will be your last game against Borussia Dortmund
How would you describe them as an opponent and the role they played in your career? Were they a favourite opponent of yours?
Philipp Lahm: This isn’t the right time to be sentimental
We’re playing the cup semi-final
I’ll probably look at the game differently a few weeks after the season but right now it’s simply a semi-final I'm looking forward to
It’s a top duel between the two teams that were the best in the country in the past years
We played them many times and particularly in the cup
Since 2012 we played Dortmund every single year in the cup
I’m not sure if that ever happened before
It shows how good these teams are and what status they enjoy in German football in the past years and now
That’s why I'm looking forward to the game rather than looking back at past encounters
I can do that after my career
Question: Was the Champions League final the highlight of this duel?
Philipp Lahm: What do you think? It wasn’t the 5:2 cup defeat in 2012
I think it’s pretty easy to imagine what I remember as the greatest game against Dortmund
Question: But there’s plenty of games to remember
Philipp Lahm: I remember most games
I’ve played more than 500 games and I certainly can’t remember every single one but I do remember the finals very well despite my age
Question: Two weeks ago you beat Dortmund quite clearly
What has changed since then?
Philipp Lahm: I think both teams have more players at their disposal now
At the time Dortmund and Bayern had a few injury problems and Dortmund actually had quite massive injury problems
Also, it’s the cup, it’s only one game until the final so the situation is different and the competition is different
The game starts at 0:0 and we need to show 100% to beat this opponent
Dortmund has an incredibly talented team, particularly in offence, and that makes them very dangerous indeed
Question: Is Dortmund under more pressure?
Philipp Lahm: That doesn’t matter what happens before or after
What matters is what happens during the 90 or 120 minutes on Wednesday
Question: Considering your situation I was surprised how animated and how tense your coach seemed to be against Mainz
He even reminded me of Klopp at times
I thought it was completely normal for you not be quite as focussed following the Champions League exit
Were you surprised that he wasn’t anywhere near as calm and relaxed as usual?
Philipp Lahm: It would have been bad if he had been calmly and motionlessly sitting on the bench during that game
If that had happened you would have all written that he isn’t emotional enough and not invested enough
You know better than I do how these things work
It’s normal for a coach to be dissatisfied when we draw 2:2 at home against Mainz
At the time we didn't know Leipzig would drop points too
I think that’s only normal and part of the game
It’s important to analyse what happened on the weekend
Considering what happened previously during the week I think it’s fairly easy to explain and yet certain things just shouldn’t happen
Particularly in the past years and for most of this season we were always able to perform on the weekend even after midweek games
We always came out with 100% and tried to push the envelope from the first minute
I think we always did that in the past years and I think it’s completely normal for a coach to be critical at times and try to influence the game from the side-line
Question: Lewandowski and Aubameyang meet when these two teams clash
What do think about the two strikers in comparison?
Philipp Lahm: I can’t really judge that because I never played together with Aubameyang
It’s not a Bundesliga game so it’s not about who becomes top scorer on Wednesday
I think both players are very important for their teams
I believe they’ve scored 27 and 26 goals respectively in the league so far and that shows how important they are
They are excellent strikers as the statistics prove not only in this season
Question: Sven Ulreich will be one of the players trying to stop Aubameyang
How much trust does the Bayern captain have in the backup goalie?
Philipp Lahm: A great deal
It’s always tough when you’re always sitting on the bench and waiting and I think that became apparent in his first game and in the training sessions leading up to it
You could tell that all of a sudden he was forced to really perform in the spotlight
However, he has played a couple of times now and I think he did a very good job
I trust him, I know how good he is and so does the team which is why we have a lot of confidence in him
He kept us in the game on several occasions in the recent past so I trust him a great deal
Again, I think it’s normal for a player to require some time to settle in but fortunately he has had a few opportunities to play
Question: The past history of Bayern against Dortmund is also a history of penalty shoot outs
You won the cup final on penalties, the previous season you went out on penalties at home and you have had some issues with penalties this season already
Is that something you practice specifically or talk about?
Philipp Lahm: I only remember the last penalty shoot-out which I was fortunate enough to get to comfortably watch from the halfway line
To answer your question: yes, we do practice penalties occasionally but not just in the build-up to the Dortmund game
All season long you grab a ball every once in a while to take a few penalties
We do that routinely at Bayern and of course I do remember the penalty shootouts against Dortmund, particularly because I don’t take a penalty very often
Question: Are you confident you can stay on your legs?
Philipp Lahm: Don’t worry
I’ll be wearing studs - if that was your question
Question: What’s your favourite penalty spot? First taker, last taker?
Philipp Lahm: I’ve never thought about that
I think when I took the first one it always went quite well – maybe not always
I think when I took the first penalty in the past it was good for me and usually bad for the team
I feel best taking the sixth to eleventh penalty, particularly when we’ve already won
That’s always been the best recipe for success
Question: You mentioned you occasionally practice taking penalties
How are you feeling about taking a penalty then? Are you in good form?
Philipp Lahm: I’m in sensational form
Did you not watch us?
Question: You did well
Philipp Lahm: That’s what I wanted to hear
Question: It was a non-public training session
Philipp Lahm: First of all we don’t want to let it come to penalties
We want to win within
90 minutes, if that’s not possible within 120 and if all else fails then we’ll take penalties as a last resort
But really that’s something you want to avoid
You never approach a game thinking you’re going to go into penalties
We’re going into this game anticipating a very close game because two very good football teams meet
Nonetheless, we want to get the job done in 90 minutes
Question: Wednesday also decides what your last game for Bayern will be
What would a final mean to you?
Philipp Lahm: It would be a great end because I experienced so many events in Berlin
I was fortunate to play many finals in Berlin and most of them had a good outcome
I’ve said this so many times: the atmosphere is wonderful
You have two colours evenly spread out in the stadium, one side of the stadium is one colour and the other half of the stadium the other
It’s just very beautiful and I think that’s what distinguishes this competition
It’s a great atmosphere, a beautiful environment and to end my career there would be great
Question: Going away from the cup: we all assume you will win the championship
What would that mean to you? You could win your eighth championship in total and the fifth in succession
What would that mean?
Philipp Lahm: That is always the first and most important goal for Bayern: to win the German championship
That’s how we approach the season: to win the championship and be at the top of the country
That’s always your goal from the first to the last day of the season
That’s why it means the world to me
I know many people take us winning the league for granted but you shouldn't
It’s really special to be at the top each season
I think you could tell last season how ecstatic we were even if it seemed clear cut for a while
We secured the championship in Ingolstadt, we were extremely happy and celebrated in the evening because it still is very special to be at the top of the table when the season ends
That’s why it’s still special for me and that would of course be a great end for me personally
Regarding the records you mentioned: I never played football to break any records
I wanted to be successful and for the most part I managed to do that
If I look at our current team and form I wouldn’t be surprised if someone soon repeats the eight championships and possibly even wins nine or ten
We’ve nearly won five in succession and this will continue
The records will keep growing and improving and that’s why I never
really paid attention to that
