Source text - English 3. THE SCALP AND HAIR
To take care of the scalp and hair everyday in the best way and to treat problems connected to them in the correct manner, it’s necessary to have an adequate knowledge of their main characteristics.
3.1 SCALP
The structure of the scalp is totally comparable to the structure of the skin which completely covers our organism.
The skin, made up of different tissues, is our element of contact with the outside world, it forms an integral part of our image and above all, it conditions and reflects our state of health.
The skin’s functions are varied:
sensory
of protection
of secretion
of absorption
of body temperature regulation
of elimination and storage
The sensory function is tied to the presence of specific hot and cold receptors in the skin, tactile, pressure and pain receptors. The sensations collected by these receptors, distributed differently according to the cutaneous area, travel inside the nerves to reach the spinal cord in the first place and then the central nervous system (the brain) where they are interpreted, giving origin to perceptions.
The protective function is carried out by the same skin structure, by its acid pH, normally about 5,5 and, in contact with solar rays, by the presence of melanin.
Skin secretion is made up by the sebum which is distributed over the skin structure and has a lubricating and water-repellent effect. Furthermore, the sebum avoids the excessive loss of water and heat. Even sweat, produced by the sweat glands, forms part of the cutaneous secretions and through it, considerable amounts of metabolic waste and excess mineral salts are eliminated.
Besides secretion, the skin also has an absorbing function for some substances, such as essential oils for example, which are absorbed very rapidly through the skin, especially near the hair bulb.
The skin also acts as a temperature regulation centre. When it is very hot, the subcutaneous capillary system vessels dilate and the hair erector muscles relax, resulting in an increase of the peripheral blood flow which causes an increase in perspiration. The sudoriparous gland is also active and creates sweat in order to cool the organism further through evaporation. The opposite process is verified in case of low temperatures: the vessels in the subcutaneous capillary system compress, the flow diminishes and the hair erector muscles contract, the sudoriparous glands are inactive in order not to lose heat with sweat evaporation.
Finally, the skin also has a reserve role thanks to its ability to store fat in the subcutaneous tissue.
The epidermis, derma and subcutaneous tissue are the three structures which characterize the structure of the skin. The epidermis is formed by cells which continuously reproduce and undergo a process of keratinization as they slowly advance from the interior towards the exterior. The surface cells, dead keratinized cells, detach spontaneously and are continually renewed and eliminated following a cycle of three to four weeks.
The derma is the inner layer of the skin. In it can be found the sudoriparous glands, the hair bulbs and the nerve endings. The derma’s role is fundamental in that it takes care of the nourishment and oxygenation of the overlying epidermis, devoid of vessels.
Under the derma, we can find the subcutaneous tissue, rich in cells which are able to store lipids (adipocytes) surrounded by a dense net of arterial and venous vessels. The thickness of the subcutaneous layer is variable; it acts as an insulator and lipid reserve, it assists the mobility of the skin with respect to the deeper layers. The skin, besides that on the palm of the hands and soles of the feet, is characterized by the presence of hair follicles in greater or lesser numbers, found in abundance on the scalp, and in a much finer form over the rest of the body.
Before taking into consideration the hair structure in more detail, it’s useful to approximately describe that of the follicle, due to its importance in the growth and development phases of the same hair.
3.2 THE HAIR FOLLICLE
The hair follicle can be divided into two main areas, a permanent upper one and a lower one which presents structural modifications during the physiological lifecycle of the hair. The two parts are connected via an area known as the neck. At the base of this structure there is a rounded formation containing blood and lymphatic vessels and nerve endings, which enters partly into the follicle and is called the papilla.
This has the task of bringing nourishment and coordinating the activity of the cells which create the hair.
The deepest part of the follicle, found above and in close contact with the papilla is called the bulb. This is the area in which we can find the multiplication of the cells which form the hair and thus the lengthening of the hair itself.
At the side of the hair follicle is found the sebaceous gland, a structure assigned to the production of sebum, a fatty substance whose presence is fundamental for the synthesis of the surface hydrolipidic film, which is necessary to protect, lubricate and proof in part the external part of the hair. The sebaceous glands are present over the whole cutaneous surface, except on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. The sebum is secreted via the sebaceous duct and ends up in the hair follicle near the neck.
The hydrolipidic flim, after removal with a cleanser, redevelops in a relatively short time (3-6 hours). Following hormonal imbalances, the composition of the sebum and its production rate can undergo variations, triggering off an alteration process which will require the hair to have a greater predisposition to “oil itself” in a brief period of time.
Under the sebaceous gland, on the outer wall of the follicle, is found a small muscle (hair erector) whose function is to straighten the hair when it contracts, a phenomenon also known as horripiliation, but more commonly called “goose bumps”.

Για την καθημερινή περιποίηση του δέρματος του κεφαλιού και των μαλλιών καθώς επίσης και για την θεραπεία προβλημάτων που συνδέονται μαζί τους με το καλύτερο τρόπο, είναι αναγκαίο να υπάρχουν οι κατάλληλες γνώσεις για τα κύρια τους χαρακτηριστικά.
3.1 ΤΟ ΔΕΡΜΑ ΤΟΥ ΚΕΦΑΛΙΟΥ
Η δομή του δέρματος του κεφαλιού μπορεί να συγκριθεί με την δομή του δέρματος το οποίο καλύπτει πλήρως τον οργανισμό μας. Το δέρμα είναι φτιαγμένο από διάφορα στρώματα ιστών, είναι το στοιχείο επαφής με το εξωτερικό περιβάλλον, διαμορφώνει ένα αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της εικόνας μας και περισσότερο απ’ όλα προϋποθέτει και αντικατοπτρίζει την κατάσταση της υγείας μας.
Οι λειτουργίες του δέρματος ποικίλουν:

Η λειτουργία αίσθησης δεσμεύεται με την παρουσία συγκεκριμένων ζεστών και κρυών αισθητήριων οργάνων μέσα στο δέρμα, της αφής, της πίεσης και του πόνου. ΟΙ αισθήσεις οι οποίες μαζεύονται μέσα από αυτούς τους δέκτες, διανέμονται διαφορετικά ανάλογα με την δερματική περιοχή, ταξιδεύουν μέσα στα νεύρα για να καταλήξουν αρχικά στην σπονδυλική στήλη και μετά στον νευρικό σύστημα (τον εγκέφαλο) όπου διερμηνεύονται και αντιλαμβάνονται την καταγωγή των διαισθήσεων.
Η λειτουργία προστασίας πραγματοποιείται από την ίδια την δομή του δέρματος, από το οξύ του pH, συνήθως γύρω στο 5,5 και κατά την επαφή με τις ηλιακές ακτίνες από την παρουσία της μελανίνης.
Η έκκριση του δέρματος αποτελείται από το σμήγμα το οποίο διανέμεται πάνω από την δομή του δέρματος και έχει απωθητική δράση στην λίπανση και στο νερό. Περαιτέρω, το σμήγμα εμποδίζει το υπερβολικό χάσιμο νερού και θερμότητας. Ακόμα και ο ιδρώτας ο οποίος παράγεται από τους ιδρωτοποιούς αδένες, διαμορφώνει μέρος των δερματικών εκκρίσεων και μέσα από αυτούς αποβάλλεται ένα σημαντικό ποσό μεταβολικών απορριμμάτων και περιττών μεταλλικών αλάτων.
Εκτός από την έκκριση, το δέρμα έχει και μια απορροφητική ιδιότητα για ορισμένες ουσίες όπως για παράδειγμα για τα αιθέρια έλαια, τα οποία απορροφούνται γρήγορα μέσα στο δέρμα και ειδικότερα κοντά στους βολβούς των μαλλιών.
Το δέρμα ενεργεί και ως κέντρο για ρύθμιση της θερμοκρασίας. Όταν είναι πολύ ζέστη, τα αγγεία του υποδόριου τριχοειδούς συστήματος διαστέλλονται και οι ορθωτήρες μύες των μαλλιών χαλαρώνουν με αποτέλεσμα την αύξηση της περιφερειακής ροής τους αίματος το οποίο προκαλεί στην συνέχεια την αύξηση αφίδρωσης. Ο ιδρωτοποιός αδένας είναι επίσης ενεργός και δημιουργεί τον ιδρώτα όταν ο οργανισμός πρέπει να δροσιστεί μέσα από την εξάτμιση. Η αντίθετη διαδικασία επίσης επαληθεύεται σε περιπτώσεις χαμηλών θερμοκρασιών: τα αγγεία του υποδόριου τριχοειδούς συστήματος συμπιέζονται, η ροή του αίματος μειώνεται και οι ορθωτήρες μύες των μαλλιών συστέλλονται, ενώ οι ιδρωτοποιοί αδένες αδρανούν για να μειωθεί η ζέστη με την εξάτμιση του ιδρώτα.
Τέλος το δέρμα διαδραματίζει και ένα ρόλο αποθήκευσης, χάρη στην ικανότητα του να αποθηκεύει λίπος μέσα στο υποδόριο στρώμα. Η επιδερμίδα είναι διαμορφωμένη από κύτταρα τα οποία αναπαράγονται συνεχώς και υφίστανται μιας διαδικασίας κετατινοποίησης καθώς προχωρούν αργά από μέσα προς το έξω. Τα επιφανειακά κύτταρα, τα νεκρά κερατινώδης κύτταρα ξεκολλάνε αυτοφυώς, αναπαράγονται και εξοντώνονται συνεχώς, ακολουθώντας ένα κύκλο τριών μέχρι τεσσάρων εβδομάδων.
Το χόριον είναι το εσωτερικό στρώμα του δέρματος. Μέσα σε αυτό βρίσκονται οι ιδρωτοποιοί αδένες, οι βολβοί των μαλλιών και τα νευρικά άκρα. Ο ρόλος του χόριου είναι θεμελιώδης αφού φροντίζει για την τροφή και την οξυγόνωση της από πάνω επιδερμίδας, η οποία στερείται αγγεία.
Κάτω από το χόριον βρίσκεται το υποδόριο στρώμα το οποίο είναι πλούσιο σε κύτταρα στα οποία μπορούν να αποθηκεύουν λιπίδια τα οποία περιβάλλονται από ένα πυκνό δίχτυ αρτηριακών και φλεβικών αγγείων. Το πάχος του υποδόριου στρώματος είναι μεταβλητό. Ενεργεί ως μονωτήρας και ως αποθηκευτής λιπιδίων, ενώ βοηθάει στην ευκινησία όσον αφορά τα βαθύτερα στρώματα του δέρματος. Το δέρμα, εκτός από αυτό το οποίο βρίσκεται στις παλάμες των χεριών και των πελμάτων των ποδιών, χαρακτηρίζεται από την παρουσία θυλάκιων τρίχας κατά μεγαλύτερο ή λιγότερο αριθμό, τα οποία βρίσκονται σε αφθονία στο δέρμα του κεφαλιού, και σε καλύτερη μορφή απ’ ότι στο υπόλοιπο σώμα.
Προτού κοιτάξουμε αναλυτικά την δομή των μαλλιών, είναι χρήσιμο να περιγράψουμε και το θυλάκιο της τρίχας αφού είναι σημαντικό στην φάση της εξέλιξης και της ανάπτυξης των ίδιων των μαλλιών.
3.2 ΤΟ ΘΥΛΑΚΙΟ ΤΗΣ ΤΡΙΧΑΣ
Το θυλάκιο της τρίχας μπορεί να χωριστεί σε δύο σημαντικές περιοχές, το μόνιμο άνω μέρος και το κατώτερο μέρος το οποίο παρουσιάζει δομικούς μετασχηματισμούς κατά την διάρκεια του φυσιολογικού κύκλου ζωής της τρίχας. Τα δύο σημεία ενώνονται μέσα από μια περιοχή η οποία είναι γνωστή ως ο λαιμός.
Στην βάση αυτής της δομής υπάρχει μια στρογγυλεμένη διαμόρφωση η οποία περιέχει αίμα, λεμφαγγεία και νευρικά άκρα τα οποία εισέρχονται εν μέρη μέσα στο θυλάκιο και ονομάζεται θηλή.
Αυτή η θηλή έχει ως καθήκον να τρέφει και να συντονίζει την δραστηριότητα των κυττάρων τα οποία δημιουργούν τα μαλλιά. Το βαθύτερο μέρος του θυλακίου το οποίο βρίσκεται από πάνω και σε κοντινή επαφή με την θηλή ονομάζεται βολβός. Αυτή είναι η περιοχή στην οποία γίνεται ο πολλαπλασιασμός των κυττάρων τα οποία διαμορφώνουν την τρίχα και επομένως και το μάκρος των ιδίων μαλλιών.
Στο πλαϊνό μέρος του θυλακίου, βρίσκεται ο σμηγματογόνος αδένας, μια δομή η οποία είναι υπεύθυνη για την παραγωγή του σμήγματος, μιας λιπαρής ουσίας της οποίας η παρουσία είναι θεμελιώδης για την σύνθεση της επιφανειακής υδρολιπιδικής μεμβράνης, η οποία είναι απαραίτητη για να προστατεύει, να λιπαίνει και να καθιστά αδιάβροχο εν μέρη το εξωτερικό μέρος των μαλλιών. Ο σμηγματογόνος αδένας είναι παρόν σε ολόκληρη τη δερματική επιφάνεια, εκτός από τις παλάμες των χεριών και τις πατούσες των ποδιών. Το σμήγμα εκκρίνεται μέσω του σμηγματικού αγωγού και καταλήγει στο θυλάκιο της τρίχας κοντά στο λαιμό.
Η υδρολιπιδική μεμβράνη, αφού αφαιρεθεί με ένα καθαριστικό, αναπτύσσεται ξανά σε περίπου 3-6 ώρες. Ακολουθώντας ορμονικές ανισορροπίες, η σύνθεση του σμήγματος και η αναλογία παραγωγής του μπορεί να υποστεί παραλλαγές, προκαλώντας μια εναλλακτική διαδικασία η οποία απαιτεί όπως τα μαλλιά να έχουν μια μεγαλύτερη προδιάθεση να ‘λαδώνονται’ σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα.
Κάτω από των σμηγματογόνο αδένα, στον εξωτερικό περιτοίχισμα του θυλακίου, βρίσκεται ένα μικρός μυς ( ορθωτήρας των τριχών) του οποίου λειτουργία είναι να ενδυναμώνει τα μαλλιά όταν συστέλλονται, ένα φαινόμενο το οποίο είναι γνωστό και ως ανόρθωση τριχών (ανατρίχιασμα).

Πρέπει λοιπόν εμείς να καταβάλουμε προσπάθειες και να χτίζουμε μία σχέση εμπιστοσύνης με τον τρόπο μας απέναντι του, αλλά και με το καλό αποτέλεσμα της δουλειάς μας.
Οι σωστές υπηρεσίες δημιουργούν ευχαριστημένους πελάτες. Αυτό μας εμπνέει να βελτιώνουμε ακόμη περισσότερο τη δουλειά μας. Έτσι εξελίσσεται μία συνεργασία με τον πελάτη.
Αν ο πελάτης προβάλλει μία επιθυμία σχετική με τη δουλειά σου πρέπει εσύ να τη μεταφέρεις γρήγορα στον προϊστάμενο σου. Το σημαντικό είναι το πρόβλημα να λυθεί σύντομα και αποτελεσματικά.

Αφού ο πελάτης πληρώνει για την εργασία σου, είναι η ικανότητα και η συμμετοχή σου που τον πείθει να επιλέξει τον δικό σου εργοδότη, και όχι άλλον.
Σπάνια βεβαία, θα συναντήσεις τα πρόσωπα που έκαναν αυτήν την επιλογή. Θα έχεις συχνή και στενή επαφή με το προσωπικό του πελάτη που εργάζεται τις ίδιες ώρες με σένα.
Οι διάφορες ανάγκες του πελάτη
Αυτό που σε καθοδηγεί στη δουλειά σου είναι οι ανάγκες, οι απαιτήσεις και οι προσδοκίες του πελάτη. Χωρίζουμε τις ανάγκες του πελάτη σε γνωστές και άγνωστες.
Γνωστές ανάγκες είναι αυτές που έχουν άμεση σχέση με την τακτική μας εργασία, όπως π.χ. ότι η κουζίνα και οι τουαλέτες πρέπει να καθαρίζονται κάθε μέρα, ενώ άλλοι χώροι, όπως γραφεία και αίθουσες συνεδριάσεων κάθε βδομάδα. Οι τακτικές αυτές ανάγκες υπάρχουν συχνά σε γραπτές οδηγίες.
Οι άγνωστες ανάγκες είναι έκτακτες περιπτώσεις καθαρισμού, όπως π.χ. ο καθαρισμός χώρου όπου έγινε μία γιορτή, ή αν ο πελάτης εκφράσει ότι επιθυμεί περισσότερο καθαρισμό το καλοκαίρι.
Το προφίλ σημαίνει πολλά
Το δικό σου προφίλ αλλά και της εταιρείας που ανήκεις είναι ένας σημαντικός παράγοντας.
Το να χρησιμοποιείς π.χ. τα ρούχα εργασίας της εταιρείας και να έχεις την κάρτα με το όνομα σου στο στήθος, διευκολύνει τους άλλους να αναγνωρίζουν εύκολα την εταιρεία.
Σκέψου π.χ. την αντίδραση σου όταν βλέπεις ένα αυτοκίνητο με το όνομα μίας εταιρείας γραμμένο επάνω. Τι σημαίνει αυτό για σένα;
Το να είσαι συνεπής στις ώρες σου, να κάνεις καλά τη δουλειά σου και να παίρνεις πρωτοβουλίες, είναι μερικοί ακόμη παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν θετικά τον πελάτη.
Η κατάσταση και η εμφάνιση του εξοπλισμού που χρησιμοποιείς αποκαλύπτει ένα μέρος της ικανότητας σου και την υπερηφάνεια του καθαριστή για το επάγγελμά του. Επίσης η σωστή συμπεριφορά είναι πολύ σημαντική στην καθημερινή επαφή με τον πελάτη όπως π.χ. να ρωτάς ”μπορώ να περάσω μέσα να καθαρίσω;”, όταν δεν είσαι βέβαιος.
Για να υπάρχει συμφωνία μεταξύ των προσδοκιών του πελάτη και του αποτελέσματος της δουλειάς σου, πρέπει να ξέρεις το περιεχόμενο της συμφωνίας μεταξύ του πελάτη και της εταιρείας σου, ώστε να είσαι επίσης έτοιμος να απαντήσεις οποιεσδήποτε σχετικές ερωτήσεις τις οποίες μπορεί να σου υποβάλει ο πελάτης.
Η έννοια “Service” (υπηρεσία)
Service είναι ο τρόπος με τον οποίο εκτελείς τη εργασία σου, σύμφωνα με τις γραπτές οδηγίες που έχεις, όπως και το αποτέλεσμα της δουλειάς σου. Δηλαδή οι υπηρεσίες που προσφέρουμε στους εξωτερικούς πελάτες. Για να έχεις αυτό το καλό αποτέλεσμα χρειάζεσαι και εσύ service μέσα στην εταιρεία σου δηλαδή εσωτερικό service. Εσύ και η ομάδα εργασίας σου εξαρτάσθε από άλλες ομάδες εργασίας, οι οποίες μπορούν π.χ. να σας βοηθήσουν σε περίπτωση που υπάρχει πολύ δουλειά.
Μπορείς και εσύ να δεις τον εαυτό σου σαν πελάτης όταν παίρνεις υλικά από την αποθήκη ή όταν
γνωστοποιείς ότι κάποια μηχανή χάλασε. Κάποιος άλλος είναι υπεύθυνος να φροντίσει ώστε να επισκευαστεί η μηχανή και να αντικαταστήσει τον παλαιό, φθαρμένο εξοπλισμό.

The customer first
A customer may, whenever he/she pleases, stop using a specific company because he/she might have found better-quality services or due to a better price. This means that we must always fulfil the customer’s expectation. Thus, we must place great effort into building a relationship of trust, through our manner of contact with him, but also through positive results in our work.
Approved services result to satisfied customers. This inspires us to improve our work even further. This is how cooperation with a customer evolves.
If a client expresses a desire which is related to your work, then you must quickly communicate it to your senior. The important issue is for the problem to be solved swiftly and effectively.
Every company needs to be profitable. Thus, the customer needs to be the centre. The entire process of securing a deal is done from i.e. a company, a school, a social service or a department in a company.
Since the customer is paying for your work, it is your own effort and participation that convinces him to choose your employer, and not someone else.
However, you will rarely meet the people who actually made this decision. You will have more frequent and direct contact with the client’s staff, people who work the same hours as you do.
The customer’s different needs
What guides you in your work, is the customer’s needs, demands and expectations. We divide the customer’s needs into known and unknown needs.
Known needs are the ones that have a direct relation to our regular work as for example, that the kitchen and bathrooms need to be cleaned every day, while other areas, such as offices and conference rooms, need to be cleaned every week. These regular needs are usually included in written guidelines.
Unknown needs are unscheduled cleaning occasions such as i.e. the cleaning of an area where there was a party, or if the client informs you that he requires more cleaning during the summer period.
Profile means a lot
Your profile, but also the profile of the company you belong to, is a very significant factor.
Using for example the company’s work clothes and having a label with your name, facilitates others to easily recognise the company.
Think for example, your reaction when you see a car with a company’s name written on it. What does that mean for you?
Being punctual in your hours, performing your job well and taking initiatives, are also a few other factors that project a positive image to the customer.
The state and appearance of the equipment you are using reveals a part of your abilities and the pride that a cleaner has in regards to his/her profession. Furthermore, proper conduct is also very important in your everyday encounter with the client such as asking if you can go into a specific space or office to clean when you are not certain.
In order to maintain a balance between your customer’s expectations and your work’s result, you should be aware of the agreement content between the client and your company.
The concept of “Service”
A Service is the manner in which you perform your work, according to the written instructions you have, as well as the results of your work. In short, it is the services we offer to outside clients. To have a good result in your work in this field, you also need to be provided with services within your company, that is inner services. You and your work team depend from other work teams that might i.e. assist you in case of overload.
You can also view yourself as a customer when you collect tools from the storage room or when you notify the company that a machine is broken. Someone else is responsible to make sure that a machine is repaired and that old, rusty equipment is replaced.
