――なぜ、昔話に注目したのでしょうか。
現代の環境問題は、技術的な解決方法ばかりが模索され、人間の生き方を変える取り組みが、あまり見当たりません。そこで、昔話を活用し、人と自然の関係を大局観から見直そうと考えたのです。
世界の昔話と言っても、環境問題に直接的にかかわる話題が盛り込まれているわけではありません。その代わり、どの地域の物語にも人間と自然とのかかわりが描かれ、「人間は自然の一部である」という点が強調されています。これこそ現代人に欠けている視点だと思います。
