Een receiver swap valt onder de definitie van Afdekkingspercentage.
Ter illustratie: een MKB-Klant had enige tijd een Overhedge In Omvang van 20%.
De Bank heeft deze Overhedge In Omvang na enige tijd ongedaan gemaakt, door het afsluiten van een receiver swap met een Notional ter hoogte van 20% van de oorspronkelijke payer swap.
Stel dat de Swaprente op het oorspronkelijke Rentederivaat 5% bedroeg en de Notional EUR 1,2 mln., en de Swaprente op de receiver swap ter grootte van EUR 200.000 2% bedroeg.
De MKB-Klant heeft dan na de aanpassing effectief (5%-Euribor) betaald over EUR 1 mln en 3% (5%-2%) over EUR 200.000.
Het Herstelkader schrijft echter een aanpassing voor waarin de MKB-Klant uitsluitend (5%-Euribor) hoeft te betalen over EUR 1 mln.; de Bank dient in dit geval de betaalde 3% over de Notional van EUR 200.000 alsnog aan de MKB-Klant te vergoeden.

A receiver swap falls within the definition of Hedge Percentage.
For example, take an SME Client that had a 20% Overhedge in Amount over a certain period of time.
After some time, the Bank cancelled this Overhedge in Amount by signing a receiver swap with a Notional in the amount of 20% of the original payer swap.
Suppose that the Swap Interest-Rate on the original Interest-Rate Derivative amounted to 5% and the Notional EUR 1.2m, and the Swap Interest-Rate on the receiver swap totalling EUR 200,000 amounted to 2%.
The SME Client, after the effective adjustment, then paid (5%-Euribor) of EUR 1m and 3% (5%-2%) of EUR 200,000.
The Compensation Framework, however, prescribes an adjustment whereby the SME Client only has to pay (5%-Euribor) of EUR 1m; in this case, the Bank must still compensate the SME Client for the 3% of the Notional of EUR 200,000.

Source text - French S’il est un couple indissociable en finance, c’est bien celui du risque et de la rentabilité. Des rentabilités accrues ne peuvent être obtenues qu’au prix de risques accrus. Et si les risques sont accrus, la probabilité qu’ils se matérialisent augmente elle aussi. Que notre lecteur ne l’oublie jamais, sinon il s’en mordra amèrement les doigts.
Mais tant que tout va bien, l’aversion au risque est faible et l’analyse qui en faite devient superficielle. ABN Amro peut inventer, en août 2006, un nouveau produit financier, le CPDO, noté par les agences de rating AAA comme un actif sans risque mais rapportant 2 % de plus que les emprunts d’Etat, sans que beaucoup s’interrogent. Il vaut aujourd’hui entre 40 % et 70 % de son prix d’émission, ce qui montre que ce n’était pas un actif sans risque. De même, le président de Citi peut déclarer, le 10 juillet 2007, en parlant du financement des LBO « tant qu’il y a de la musique, vous devez danser. Nous continuons de danser ». Enfin, la prime de risque du marché peut être dans ses plus bas historiques à 2,86 % en mai 2007.

Le risque s’est alors rappelé brutalement et violemment à l’attention des investisseurs qui sont alors partis dans l’autre extrême : adieu la cupidité, bonjour la peur ! Refusant de souscrire ou d’acheter des produits un tant soi peu compliqués, opaques ou risqués, les investisseurs provoquent l’arrêt des prêts immobiliers aux moins bons emprunteurs, des LBO faute de financement, du refinancement des véhicules bancaires déconsolidés et de la plupart des outils de titrisation. Une crise de liquidité, c'est-à-dire une crise de défiance, s’installe qui se traduit par une hausse violente des spreads, par des difficultés de financement pour les entreprises, et surtout pour les banques dont certaines sont sauvées de la faillite par une nationalisation (Northern Rock, Royal Bank of Scotland, Fortis, etc.) ou une cession en catastrophe (Bear Sterns, Merrill Lynch, HBOS, etc.).

Finally, the market risk premium was at its historical low at 2.86% in May 2007 .
But trees don’t reach the sky, and what had to happen, happened. The mechanical increase in the cost of mortgages that was written into contracts through step-up clauses triggered the insolvency of some households, which brought a halt to the rise in property prices in the USA, followed shortly thereafter by a fall in prices. This had a snowball effect and millions of borrowers became insolvent. Their debts were then worth much less than their face value. Because these debts had been introduced, like a virus, into a large number of financial arrangements or portfolios in order to boost their performances, they contaminated their hosts in turn. By end-2008, losses linked to subprimes revealed by banks, credit enhancers, insurance companies, hedge funds and asset managers reached around $400bn.
This was a very sudden and violent wake-up call for investors, reminding them that risk was the other side of the returns coin. So what do they do? They head off in the opposite direction, no longer quite as greedy, but petrified out of their wits! Refusing to subscribe or buy products that in themselves were not very complex, opaque or risky, investors have provoked a halt in lending to subprime borrowers, they’ve brought an end to LBOs as there is no financing available and they are responsible for off-balance sheet vehicles and most securitisation tools being unable to find refinancing. A liquidity crisis, which is a crisis of confidence, takes hold, ushering in a sharp increase in spreads leading to financing problems for companies, and especially for banks, most of which were saved from bankruptcy by nationalisation (Northern Rock, Royal Bank of Scotland, Fortis, etc.) or a fire-sale disposal (Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, HBOS, etc.).
