Bio
I have a degree in Modern Languages from the University of Wales (1971).
I also qualified as a teacher of Modern Languages in 1973, and worked as a secondary school teacher (aged 11 to 18) for Modern Languages (French and German) in English schools between 1973 and 1979.
Between 1980 and 2008 I worked in IT as a Systems Analyst in 7 different countries. I was also frequently involved in reproducing documents in English when requested.
Between 2008 and 2010 I worked as a freelance translator on a part-time basis, and since 2011 I have been working full-time in this area.
I also work occasionally as a writer, I have a very good command of the English Language (traditional UK - with British spelling and punctuation!), and I like to give vent to my expressive abilities.
I have briefly used Trados (and not since 2012), but I prefer traditional human translation methods (as a longstanding IT specialist, I prefer human expressive abilities over "machine translations" - a computer program will always have its limitations). I have also worked a great deal with the XTM translation tool and the DeepL translator since 2020.
I am competent and committed. Quality, punctuality and customer satisfaction are concepts which are close to my heart.
I also have run into scammers who expect free translations from which they can benefit. In order to prevent this happening now, I will not accept work from individuals who can provide nothing more than an email address. I prefer wherever possible a working contract.
To note I have been resident in Germany for the past 21 years, previously I spent 9 years living in the Netherlands, 3 years in France and 1 year in French-speaking Belgium, so I have a lot of international experience. In 2019 I became a dual German-British national. To note. All quotes and payments should be in euro. Due to problems with banking procedures, I will not accept payment in US dollars.
