Paralelamente y aprovechando las obras del recinto deportivo, el equipo de tecnología y sistemas del club, dirigido por Enrique Uriel, inicia en el año 2000 la primera toma de contacto con la tecnología de VoIP a través de la multinacional Cisco Systems, hasta ese momento proveedor de algunos sistemas de networking del club. De ese encuentro surge el proyecto para migrar a una plataforma IP multiservicio convergente que conecte y unifique las localizaciones físicas de la entidad blanca: estadio Santiago Bernabéu, museo, tiendas oficiales y Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas, y que soporte comunicaciones seguras desde cualquier parte del mundo. Hasta ese momento, la situación tecnológica de la entidad se basaba en redes independientes para datos, mediante concentradores Ethernet; y para voz, a través de centralitas tradicionales para aquellos lugares que así lo requerían. Además, la red ofrecía una cobertura parcial a zonas determinadas, tales como las oficinas del estadio, la antigua ciudad deportiva y a una de las tiendas oficiales del club anexa al recinto deportivo. El plan estratégico de comunicaciones convergentes, basado en IP puro para soportar vídeo, voz, datos, comunicaciones inalámbricas y toda clase de servicios sobre una sola red y desde cualquier sitio, inicia su primera fase de despliegue en marzo de 2001.
