Are "paseras" grapevines or is this a different terminology please?

Once harvested the grapes are spread out on paseras, special sites set aside for drying out the fruit in the sun, a process known as "soleo", or sunning.

Yes, but "miles de hectáreas" does not mean just one plantation, it refers to the Cordoba area. And the text is about vino dulce, so it makes sense.

agree  Charles Davis: They spread the grapes out on the ground on esparto mats, so they occupy a lot of space. In other parts of the world trellises and racks are often used.
