Spanish term or phrase: familia en ruptura conyugal
I'm translating a study on health-related quality of life in children from families where the parents are divorced/separated. I'm having unreasonable trouble with this term, partly because most of the studies cited in the article are in Spanish, so are of no help. The term "ruptura conyugal" comes up about 100 times, often as "familia en ". The two groups in the study are children from families in "ruptura conyugal" and "no ruptura conyugal". "Broken families" seems to be a little outdated and possibly loaded with other connotations, and "families where the parents are divorced or spearated" is simply unwieldy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are a couple of examples:

La relación familiar impacta en el desarrollo del autoconcepto, especialmente durante la edad infantil y algunos autores han evidenciado que los hijos de familias en ruptura conyugal muestran un autoconcepto deficiente

se observó que los niños procedentes de familias en ruptura conyugal obtuvieron puntuaciones más bajas en todas las dimensiones de la CV, frente a los niños procedentes de familias intactas

families with marital conflict

Explanation:

From the article:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&c...
Thus, it is reasonable to hypothesize that marital dissolution when combined with post-divorce coparenting cooperation may better protect against deleterious adolescent outcomes associated with marital conflict compared to coparenting cooperation within intact families with marital conflict.

The opposite would be:
families with no marital conflict
families without marital conflict

Family involved in a marriage (marital) breakdown

Explanation:
I think that "en" preposition in Spanish should be translated as "involved"

Example sentence(s):
  • We had very little family law, there were few specialist practitioners, the judiciary by and large was unready and there was little general awareness of the complexity and subtlety of many of the issues involved in marriage breakdown.

family in dissolution

Explanation:
'Family relationships impact on the development of one's concept on oneself, especially during childhood. Some authors have proven that children from broken homes show some self-concept deficiency. It was found that children from families in dissolution gained lower success and achievements in all parts of their CVs when faced with others coming from stable homes and families.'
