Spanish term or phrase: tomados de ... en ...
I'm lost here. Beyond my mathematics understanding. This is for year four kids (ESO 4) in Spain. I don't know what they mean here. Anything that would make this simpler would be appreciated as well. As it is, I have to be very literal since I don't understand it. TIA!! To UK English.

ORIG
Las variaciones ordinarias o sin repetición de m elementos, tomados de p en p, siendo p (simbolo para "igual o menor que") m, son los diferentes grupos de p elementos distintos entre sí que se pueden formar con los m elementos, de forma que, en cada dos grupos.

ROUGH DRAFT
The normal or non-repetitive variations of m elements, from p to p, where p (symbol for "less than or equal to") m, are the different groups of p elements without duplicate elements that can be made from m elements such that every two groups:

English translation:... at a time
Explanation:
I believe they mean "taken p at a time" (for example, 3 at a time), where p is less than or equal to m. If you look at the solution to sample question 1 in the link, you have an example.

choose [ p]

Explanation:
Your original 'chooses ***p**'. Other examples choose k or n (just an optional name for a variable):

'Choose k':
"Variations are arrangements of selections of objects, where the order of the selected objects matters.
To count k-element variations of n objects, we first need to ***choose a k-element*** combination and then
a permutation of the selected objects". https://webpages.uncc.edu/ghetyei/courses/old/S19.3166/pcv.p...
'Choose n':
"Each such choice is called a variation with repetition of m elements ***choose n***. "

from a set of 'm' elements (in your original) you *choose* (select / extract) sub-sets of size 'p' (obviously, p has to be less than m)

neutral  MPGS: What do you do 'at a time'? choose / select. The question starts: "tomados..." :-)

-> You take p at a time (take 3 at a time, for example) as I said in my explanation. You could use another verb, but from personal experience I know take is the usual verb in this mathematical context. In the question it would probably be "taken p at a time"

taken from 'p' ... on 'p'

Explanation:
The information contains mathematical symbols:
"The 'm' element variations, without repetition, taken from 'p' on 'p', while 'p' is a symbol which is equal to, or less than something. They are different groups of 'p' elements among itself (or themselves), which can be formed with the 'm' elements from both groups."

Example sentence(s):
  • "Las variaciones sin repetición de 'm' elementos, tomados de 'p' en 'p', siendo 'p' un símbolo para algo igual o menos que algo. Son los diferentes grupos de 'p', elementos entre si, que se pueden formar con los 'm' elementos formados en cada grupo."
