@AllegroTrans Thanks - I agree with the principle and I wouldn't omit it if I were dealing with an LSP or a non-specialised direct client, but this direct client is the lawyer representing the parties in the contract and responsible for the same. As he has asked me to omit it, c'est fait.

But seriously, thank you all for taking a stab at this. I hope that this will at least be useful for anyone finding stray acronyms in the title of this kind of document.

it's the document drafter's initials - speaking personally, I would not omit it, most especially if this is a legal document.

I'm closing down this question - I ended up asking the client precisely because it was so strange and specific and there's not enough context that I can give (as in: there's no more to give). The client said to omit it because it's the name of the official that drew up the boilerplate articles (which is why it appears on some other documents in the public domain, but no-one could have possibly guessed what it was).

@philgoddard Yes, very nearly - in my particular document it says:

ARTICLES OF INC. (OR assoc.)
COMPANY NAME
Nzm

ARTICLE 1

The first three lines, including the Nzm form part of the title of the document. Nzm is NOT a part of the company's name as it is an abbreviation that appears in many other documents not related to this company, and appears in exactly the same context and format. It is not a type of company and I've seen it in Chilean documents (should have mentioned that tidbit, apologies) - don't know whether it appears anywhere else.

What about the spacing? Could Nzm be part of the company's name?
