Spanish term or phrase: un sentido del presente
This is a scene in a script fro a film by an Argentine filmmaker. The mean boss is, it seems, about to fire the main character:

Es una oficina adyacente a las oficinas de los dueños de la editorial. Es amplia, tiene buena luz y todos los mobiliarios son de buena calidad. La Señora lo observa a Javier mientras lo invita con un gesto a sentarse. Lo mira con un sentido del presente que resulta intimidante.

English translation:with a sense of gravity
Explanation:
Another formulation that sounds a little less translationese:

She looked at him with a sense of gravity that was intimidating.

Depending on the larger context, this could also fit:
She looked menacingly [intimidatingly] at him with the gravity of the situation.

agree  AllegroTrans: what about 'intimidating sense of gravity'?

-> I agree with Phil; “intimidating sense” doesn’t go together as it’s a subjective experience. That’s why “with a sense of gravity that /was intimidating [to him] / / he found intimidating.”

neutral  philgoddard: I don't think a sense can be intimidating - it's something that goes on in someone else's mind, so you can't see it. But this would work if you left out "a sense of".

Explanation:
was going to agree with Reuben's "a sense of gravity) but really

she looked at him with a grave expression that he found intimidating

(or "serious expression" might also work)
