agree  Charles Davis: Or "resting". / "On crystalline bedrock" would also be acceptable. // Yes, I think it must. However, better to be precise.

  -> Thanks, Charles. I agree with resting, but bedrock and basement are slightly different in that bedrock is a subset of the basement. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/glossary/?term=bedrock Having said that, it probably does refer to the bedrock subset.
