Los fósiles más antiguos de la península los podemos encontrar en las rocas que se originaron en el fondo del océano que la cubría hace 580 Ma: formas unicelulares (cubiertas orgánicas de bacterias) han sido descritas en varios yacimientos. También se han encontrado fósiles de organismos pluricelulares de cuerpo blando denominados vendoténidos y sabelidítidos.
