This is a description of the chair Frida Kahlo is sitting in in the self-portrait "Autoretrato de pelona" (Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair). It looks like simply a wooden chair, but I wonder if there is a more specific meaning.

Although the frame of the chair is obviously made of wood, it has one of those rustic seats made of woven cane/rush that are seemingly ubiqitous in rural France and Spain (and elsewhere, I imagine). Have a look at the Google Images link and you'll see what I mean.

I almost suggested "wicker chair", but that's more in reference to chairs that are entirely made of strong woven cane.
