From what I am seeing online, it might refer to the heads on some sort of automatic watering system? Or maybe it is something he invented that should be translated as "automatic flowers"??

I think you're on the right track but where it says "flores" and according to another description of this creation that I found (see below, hope I copied the link right), these are artificial flowers that dispense nectar or nectar substitute, i.e., food.
