get the car through its registration by fair means or foul Explanation: Just another suggestion, "push through" seems OK too. I can't quite determine what they meant by the phrase, but presumably it is that: do whatever it takes to get the car "through the MOT" as we would say in Britain. |

push the car through (registration, MOT etc.) Explanation: (MOT - Ministry of Transport registration in UK, not sure what it's called in US) I would say this as it covers all your cases, some cowboy tinkering, pulling some strings or other not so legal means. Or just do the necessary repairs to make the car barely road-fit. "Expect three years from the car. One year since being fully serviced. One year pushed through the MOT at minimum cost, scrapped before the next MOT." http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=66241&v=t... "In my line of work I invariably hear about and see a lot of vehicles that might have been pushed through the registration process under this guise, so I assumed that it was common knowledge or at least an explained urban myth, that it did occur from time to time." http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/features/0604_4wd_2003_jee... "we shall see might be able to get a friend to push it through MOT, hopefully not literally " http://www.reallymeansounds.com/forum/news-events/108819-rms... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2010-07-27 11:05:50 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "I had to replace the tyres the next day after I bought it with the brake pads, but the garage that changed the tyres said they were certainly illegal, the garage that did the cars mot, does all the mots, serviceing & warranties for this trader. And because they forgot to do the cars mot until the last second im guessing the garage just pushed it through the mot for them...." http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1021... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2010-07-27 11:13:33 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Well it seems the oil leak issue is sorted however I think it may have revealed a major underlying issue, that is the fact that my new car may be a bag of shit with a pushed through MOT. I just looked on MOT Information - Introduction and saw that it failed first time around on lots of things and then passed through the same day. this like R/O/S suspension mount completely corroded, and that was passed through a little while later, this is on top of the other 10 failures passed the same day!!!" http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/number-issues-may-linked-85... |

to plough through MOT Explanation: I think this term is the best fit. Bare in mind that it is British slang though. Reference: http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/phrasal-verbs/plough+t... |
