В общем согласен с ответом IrinaN, но считаю, что его можно уточнить, т.к. у автора наличная ситуация деятельности (what is given) противопоставляется принятой субъектом цели (what is to be achieved).

Thanks Alexander, and everyone else too. Michael's idea seems good too, although the meaning is quite different ("prescribed" implies that someone else is doing the prescribing, whereas "to be achieved" could be internal or external).
