Norwegian to English Medical Medical (general) Norwegian state benefit
Hei!

I am translating a medical report which states that the patient has a permanent disability and will need to be assessed for "permanent ytelse" by the NAV, but are these benefits necessarily "permanent", or just ongoing?

I'd be interested to hear your views, or to learn of any references you find.

Happy to help. Yes, the benefit is permanent (or it runs until retirement age, when it is replaced by ordinary pension, which also would be a permanet benefit). It seem clear to me that we are talking about "uføretrygd", which NAV could grant.

'permanent' (UK: continuing) benefit

It is the illness, disability or 'incapacity' that is permanent, rather than the payment of disability benefit. Cut to temporary/ permanent partial/full incapacity etc. in France: La rente d'incapacité permanente partielle (IPP) est versée par la Caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM).

Norwegian corporate - shipping & engineering - clients in my experience, though, (and that shall remain nameless) would prefer a literal 'permanent' translation. So 'he who pays the piper calls the tune'.

Otherwise, this question needs (to) be prefixed with permament and does *not* research / Google well.

You are welcome ! I think part of the problem could lie in the ambiguity of the UK term of 'permanent disability benefit' and that would 'of been' lost on the average, semi-literate British Daily Mail reader: https://legalaidatwork.org/factsheet/workers-compensation-pe...

You can receive disability benefit until you are 67 years old. After the age of 67, anyone receiving disability benefit will receive retirement pension instead.

Well, I did try to research it online, but my research was drawing a blank, and I didn't have enough time to research it fully. I am always very grateful for any support I do receive (some native-speakers may be able to help, expending little effort), but I don't expect other translators to take on my work for me.
