Board of Fiftten for Performing (Public) Sacrifices


Explanation:
Originally a Board of Two (duovri) consisting solely of patricians, under the Kings, but after 367 BCE the membership rose to ten (Livy, 66.27.12) and was equally divided between patricians and plebeians. By 51 BCE their number had risen to fifteen (cf. Cicero, ad familiares, 8.4.1), and Caesar raised it to sixteen (Cassius Dio, 42.51.4). They began as keepers of the Sibylline Books (Livy, 5.13.5f. et passim) but gradually acquired supervision over all foreign cults which had attained official state recogition.
