Naturally, (to be cont´d below....) Explanation: "Naturally a man (a single man) is allowed to have one wife only" (a single one). Reference is being made to monogamous marriages which were the rule at that time. Singuli and Singulas I consider as plural forms. This term, by the way, was lateron shortened to "dumtaxat singulis" I would recommend another link it´s about "The Roman soldier ...." |
