Japanese term or phrase: ~が盛んに行われている
最近研究が盛んに行われている量子効果が顕著な低次元磁性やフラストレーションの強い磁性体の性質について紹介する。

This is from a class description for a physics course. What is the subject of the sentence, research or results? I can only find examples of 盛んに行われている following に, so I'm not sure if the way its being used here is incorrect.

English translation:something that is frequently happening/becoming popular
Explanation:
I have seen the term being used when referring to something that is frequently happening, or something that is being performed (or implemented) actively.

Sorry if I am answering only now. My examples were only meant to explain about the use of the 盛んに行われている part (I am not an expert in physics, especially in Japanese I am afraid) so I am sorry if they were misleading. Anyway, I am in Japan right now and I have asked my Japanese friend about the sentence structure, and it is actually a little weird. They could not grasp the exact meaning either, I am afraid (to be fair they are not physics experts either). I am only guessing here from what I have heard from them, but the SUBJECT of the sentence should be the entire phrase 最近研究~量子効果が, which "presents" (~について紹介する) what is written from 顕著~ to ~性質 . Hope this helps a little bit and that you can find the solution.

Notes to answerer
Asker: How does it function as an adjectival phrase modifying 量子効果 though? Based on your examples, the subject would be “recent research”, so that is what is frequently happening, but then what is 量子効果 doing/what is happening to 量子効果?
