Japanese term or phrase: 教示画像(kyouji Gazou)
In dictionary point of view, it looks like instrumental images.
But I am not too comfotable.

On the other hand, I have a real business case of the experiments involving the original photo of a subject person's face. Once they take the same person's photo outdoor with the same angle, they have to compare it with the original (indoor) photo for their analysis like light, pixel differences and etc.

Some Japanese scientists call the former (original photo) as 教示画像。

My alternative solution is "indicative image" but I am not too sure of I am correct.

Asker: Thank you for your prompt answer.....however, image for verification is normally used on the face recognition for security systems, like the immigration process at the airport of the US. Japan may be so. This time, the business case is of robotics so that your answer may not be a good fit.

Asker: Thank you for your prompt answer. Your 4th link has an answer although it is in Japanese............template image. As this business case is not for security systems like face recognitions currently implemented at the airports in the US, so 4th link seems to be the right one.

it's Apple support site for the Still Store, doesn't have anything to do with a camera operation or AI. From your explanation, you were looking for the English word for the image that the 2nd image is compared against, which is the same as being "referenced" against. Just a common sense. Also your business case is something to do with a robot, not Open Source or Mac OS, so you don't have to worry about "reference image" mistakingly indicates future tasks.

Asker: May I ask if the operations mentioned with the link you have provided is for camera operations or something to create a new still image in Artificial Intelligence Systems ? Based on your answer, I will choose your suggestion or another person's suggestion. Your quick reply will be highly appreciated.

Asker: Dear Gyoku, Another thing we have to be careful is Reference image is applicable to the further development tasks in Open Source, instead of Mac OS.

Asker: Again, thank you very much for your prompt answer.
