Science - Meteorology
Japanese term or phrase: 沖出しする
From a presentation describing the use of shore-based observation data to understand current & wave patterns:

周辺に観測値がない場合、直近の観測値を沖出しして代用するケースが多い。

I understand the noun 沖出し as a current that leads away from land to open seas, but I'm unsure of how to turn it into a verb, particularly in a situation where it evidently refers to observation data from nearby sites being used to extrapolate further out. I've seen "bear off the coast" and "offshore' suggested, but those don't seem like the best choices here.

Would anyone have any input on this issue?

Thanks in advance.

offshore

Explanation:
"When there are no observations stands ( or bases) in the area, cases of using immediate offshore bases are numerous. "

That's a tough one - need more context and to know more about how they usually talk about this.

Asker: That isn't *quite* what the sentence & verb are saying, but I appreciate your attention and the attempt at help.

Asker: The context is sufficient, if you're familiar with wave forecasting. I'm looking for help from someone who also works in this field.

use onshore data for offshore

Explanation:
Considering 沖出し means to go farther away from the shore, the term probably means "to use onshore data for offshore" in this context.
